Millions of Americans look forward to the changing of the seasons from winter to spring and eventually summer, so we can get outside and enjoy the wide open spaces instead of being stuck inside. However, staying cool and comfortable in the deep summer heat can be a real challenge unless you plan ahead. Here are four great ways to beat the heat and extend the time you’re able to enjoy your outdoor living spaces!

Add a Ceiling Fan

Moving air is cooler air, so why not incorporate a ceiling fan into your outdoor living space? Stagnant air becomes heavy and can make your space feel hot and stuffy. Plus, ceiling fans are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. Not quite ready to install a fan? Try a standalone fan, which provides you with flexibility and cooling at the same time. This will help keep your outdoor kitchen and living spaces cool during those summer cookouts!

Create Some Shade

Ever notice the difference in temperature when you get out of the direct sunlight and into the shade? Even if the day is still just as hot, it feels significantly cooler when the rays of the sun aren’t beating down on you! As you’re planning your outdoor kitchen or living space, think about how you can incorporate shade from a vine-covered wall or trellis or even a shade sail. These options will help you define your space while beating back the heat.

Integrate a Misting System

Many times when you’re outside, you might be looking for ways to cool off that don’t involve a full dunking in a swimming pool. However, water is one of the fastest ways around to drop your body temperature, so incorporating a water misting system into your outdoor living space may be a fun option. Kids and pets, in particular, tend to enjoy the feeling of walking through a spritz of water. There are several options for creating a cooling outdoor mist, from systems that connect to your garden hose to chilled water options that enlarge the circle of cooling.

Outdoor Water Features

There are so many fun things that you can do with water! From brightly splashing waterfalls to the hidden treasure of a koi pond, water features are sure to drop the temperature while keeping guests and family members alike intrigued. Even an outdoor shower gives you a chance to quickly cool off during the hottest part of the summer. The professionals at L & L Contractors can help you find an energy-efficient and eco-friendly way to utilize water in your outdoor spaces.
